Praise. Is it more than SONG?

Throughout my Christian life, the word ‘praise’ is often used in worship songs and it confused me. Because is praise another word for singing? What is the true meaning?

Yet, recently I have been thinking.  IS it Just a way to express our worship to God in singing or are there so many other ways. How can we magnify praise in our lives?..Is it our attitude to express gratitude when we are not singing and lifting our hands in Church. Too me on one level I think it is.

I am going through a stage in life at the moment, where, despite how hard my circumstance is I am trying to be thankful. It’s easy to get so caught up in our own emotions, anger and resentment because of the things that went wrong or didn’t go to plan in our life. But how dangerous that is to our soul when we process these thoughts. It makes us bitter and bitterness does cause a hardened heart. We need to soften our hearts to and I think that can only be done through praise and thanksgiving.

If we think more of God and less of ourselves, our situation will not get easier, BUT we will feel better because we have our eyes fixed on Jesus and He gets us through our circumstances and it can only be made better by how we respond and that should be Praise and Thanksgiving.

Unfortunately, I am not perfect, none of us are, and not everyday we will feel able to express ourselves and be thankful. BUT we can only be made perfect through Him but each small step we take to have a thankful attitude will help us become more content. It can just be something small as – thank you Lord I woke up today. But it will need to become a regular habit enough to become effective.

I looked up the definition of Praise and the search came up with many interesting things that came up in the search!!

The Psalms is one of my favourite books and I thought somewhere in there would be a verse about praise and thanksgiving.

Psalms 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful to him, and bless his name.

SO- there is a lot praise really is about. In the end it is about worship and song and somewhere in there, we can integrate thanksgiving – because thanksgiving is a celebration of praise.
